A Message from Jen this Mental Health Awareness Month: To the People Behind Student Support

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to talk about student support, and just as importantly, to recognize the people behind it showing up every single day, making that care possible in ways that often go unseen.

To the counselors, social workers, psychologists, wellness coaches, RN’s, and clinicians showing up again and again, your work matters.

You’re often the safe place in a hard moment, the steady voice in a crisis, the person helping students make sense of what feels overwhelming. You also serve as the bridge between students, families, educators, and administrators, helping school communities care for the whole child.

Your work matters more than you may hear. So much of it happens quietly, in conversations, in small shifts, in the moments when a student feels just a little more understood. Those moments may not always be visible, but they shape lives in lasting ways.

You deserve support too.

Mental Health Awareness Month shouldn’t end at recognizing student needs, it should also be a time to think about what you need to keep doing this work in a way that’s sustainable.

Supporting school-based mental health providers isn’t separate from supporting students, it’s part of it, when you’re supported, equipped, and able to keep going, the entire school community is stronger.

So this month, a reminder…

To every school-based mental health provider, thank you for the countless ways you help students feel seen, supported, and safe, thank you for the care you bring to work that is deeply human and deeply needed.

We see you, we appreciate you, and we’re committed to building the kind of support around you that matches what you give every day.

Because the people behind student support deserve support too.
